Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder celebrate Unlikely Heroes in Dallas

I was in for a treat this past Saturday, as I had the opportunity to interview one of Hollywood’s hottest couples Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder (who actually live in Atlanta). They had flown out to Dallas, TX to celebrate Unlikely Heroes, a non-profit dedicated to rescue girls from sex-trafficking.

First, let me eliminate any kind of rumors in regards of these two love birds having  any trouble in paradise. They were very affectionate with each other, holding hands, and cuddling up on one another, anyone was able to tell how much they were in love with each other.

Nikki wore a beautiful floral-patterned bohemian style gown with black suede Jimmy Choo stilettos. Her husband kept it simple yet stylish with a crisp white shirt, black jeans and a grey blazer.

After a few shots on the red carpet they came over to me for the interview. Nikki explained that she met Erica Greve (founder and CEO of Unlikely Heroes) very organically on a mutual friend’s back patio, they instantly connected after Reed learned what Unlikely Heroes stood for. From that point forward unconditional support and love was born between two powerhouses. Reed and Somerhalder don’t only lend their names and faces to the organization but also get actively involved with the girls. They visited the  rescue homes, rode bikes with the girls, took them to get manicures done with the goal of building a relationship with them. When Ian and Nikki can’t physically be present they facetime the girls to show them that they are loved and cared about.

To my question of what the everyday person can do to support this cause Nikki responded instantly with “We need to talk about it”. Sex slavery is still a very uncomfortable topic, many believing this atrocity only happening overseas or somewhere else. But it is happening right now right here in the U.S. with Atlanta, New York, and Las Vegas being the largest hubs in our country emphasized The Vampire Diaries Star.

The power couple is very passionate about the cause, believes in Erica, her team and the infrastructure Unlikely Heroes is building to change the world. UH has grown tremendously in the past 5 years having established 4 rescue homes globally. There is also one here in Dallas and I encourage everyone to get involved with it!!!

The 4th Annual Recognizing Heroes Charity Benefit sponsored by Sumits Yoga Colleyville and sponsored by iHeart Media and KISS FM later on in the evening was beautiful yet very emotional. The stories shared in the ball room of the Ritz-Carlton in uptown Dallas were heartbreaking but also hopeful. I can’t imagine what these little girls have been through but I also admire their strength and resilience to survive. To read some of the incredible rescue stories click here. Dallas gave wholeheartedly as always and Jordin Sparks let the night end with an outstanding performance!

Friscovania – Halloween meets Fashion

A few months ago I was approached by my dear friend Rhonda Sargent Chambers and her lovely production right hand Carlotta Lennox if one of my clients (Esé Azénabor) wasn’t interested in participating in a unique Halloween themed fashion show. I was ready to jump on board when I learned about the event but I was truly moved by the message and reason behind this extravagant Halloween Party.

Friscovania is dedicated to the fashion and beauty industry’s dear friend and make-up artist Kelly Whaley who was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer a few months ago. It took her life in only two short months.  Kelly left behind a beautiful 4 year old little boy named Gunner.  Kelly’s Favorite holiday was Halloween. She loved particularly doing Halloween make-up. 19 individuals of the fashion and beauty industry among them Rhonda Sargent Chambers of RSC Show Productions, Carlotta Lennox, L.B. Rosser, and Toni Muñoz-Hunt just name a few, wanted to make sure her greatest pride and joy her son would be taken care of with his educational cost for the future.

With the city of Frisco growing at an amazing rate, the team discussed the idea with  Mr. Maso, the Mayor of Frisco who shortly after was on board with the concept of the event. Friscovania will also represent a safe Trick-Or-Treat zone for children and families in Frisco, TX as well as help raise funds and awareness of City House.  Immediately the name Friscovania was born from the combination of Frisco and Halloween.

Smith II “SS 17” Collection inspired by Police Brutality

Charles Smith II, the visionary and creative mind behind Smith II, did not cease to push the envelope with his latest “Do Not Touch” collection for the Spring/Summer 2017 season. We simply can’t put this artist in a box, every time I think I figured him out he comes up with something new. A new message, new lines, new accessories, new colors and new materials.

Let’s start with his new message:

His latest collection was inspired by the on-going incidents of racism and police brutality against the African-American community. But his message goes even deeper as to holding our personal space which is often taken for granted at a high value. When we read “Do Not Touch” we automatically take a step back, pay more attention and become more respectful. Smith II wants his clients to feel untouchable when they wear his clothes, not in a cocky way, but in a more individualistic matter. The ultimate goals is to eliminate the necessity to fit in or yearning approval from others.

Charles Smith II practices what he preaches, because he sure doesn’t care about what others think of him by now. His confidence wasn’t a given but instead developed while overcoming a myriad of obstacles ranging from financial hardships to being burned by people in the industry.

During the runway presentation I loved seeing denim skirts, chokers, asymmetric jackets, lace capes (my favorites) and two piece ensembles. I was also impressed by the color range utilized, we have been used to primarily blacks and whites by Smith II but this collection also included yellow, red and a lovely burgundy.

Watch the finale walk here:

Do Not Touch raised awareness on socio-political issues and pleased our eye with ready-to-wear fashions while raising funds for DISD scholarships. His audience was so diverse showing that we ALL can come together for a great cause regardless of ethnic, social, economic or political background!

Bravo Charles! Well done!!!
