Esé Azénabor and My Refuge House celebrate strong women while fighting sex trafficking in Dallas

Esé Azénabor debuts its new collection titled Woman X Power at the brand-new Fashion Gallery on 100 Cole Street, Dallas TX 75207 in the Design District February 7th 2016.

Fashion Designer Esé Azénabor

The designer’s inspiration for her 8th collection stemmed from observing powerful female business, industry and community leaders all across the world that give the weak a voice. My Refuge House (MRH), a non-profit that supports and empowers girls rescued from human trafficking in the Philippines, was one of Esé’s inspirations. In particular, MRH’s Director of Engagement, Kim Jones, who has devoted her time and energy into supporting the recovery of these precious girls became one of the new collection’s muses. The designer was so touched by the heart- breaking stories and the mission of Restoring One Life at a Time through MRH that she had to get involved.

Nigeria-born Esé created the Woman X Power collection to demonstrate that strong, confident and almost-intimidating women can be sexy as well as feminine. The entire collection pays homage to women powerhouses that lay the pavement for the following generation of women leaders to come.

Esé Azénabor is known for its beadwork, but in this collection the envelope was pushed even further by creating 3D beadwork that will tell a story of its own. One can expect simple and clean lines. However, be prepared to gasp over beautiful green, white, gold, silver, and blush tones with some dark tones to complete the color palette. The runway show will also feature Esé’s first bridal couture collection, created after several of her bridal designs went viral on the internet.

February 7th won’t be your typical fashion show, in celebration of strong women, 30 Influencers will walk the runway to showcase that powerful women come in all shapes, sizes, and forms. These are as follows:

Esé Azénabor, Stephania Schirru, Mebrat Pahlavan, Kim Jones, Rhonda Sargent Chambers, Christine Butcher, Erika Salter, Joanne Herda, Carinthia Kishaba, Brooke Branagan, Cathy Vieth, Phyllis Comu, Jennifer Cassidy, Emily Cassidy, Hillary Kennedy, Ruqaya Hamza, Carmen Surgent, Stephanie Hollman, LeeAnne Locken, Dawn Mellon, Yana Greenstein, Melissa Rountree, Melissa Enriguez, Donna Richardson, Ilana Narosov, Jessica Chinyelu Anibowei, Tama Tran, Shabnam Pahlavan, LaToya Jones and Naila Malik.

Empress Gilbert, CEO of Expressive Geo Design will entertain the audience with her southern charm as the evening’s emcee.

Silent auction items, light bites, treats by Pudding on Smiles, and an open bar sponsored by Kruto Vodka will be available for guests to enjoy throughout the evening.

A portion of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to My Refuge House to help support their work of restoration.

Friscovania – Halloween meets Fashion

A few months ago I was approached by my dear friend Rhonda Sargent Chambers and her lovely production right hand Carlotta Lennox if one of my clients (Esé Azénabor) wasn’t interested in participating in a unique Halloween themed fashion show. I was ready to jump on board when I learned about the event but I was truly moved by the message and reason behind this extravagant Halloween Party.

Friscovania is dedicated to the fashion and beauty industry’s dear friend and make-up artist Kelly Whaley who was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer a few months ago. It took her life in only two short months.  Kelly left behind a beautiful 4 year old little boy named Gunner.  Kelly’s Favorite holiday was Halloween. She loved particularly doing Halloween make-up. 19 individuals of the fashion and beauty industry among them Rhonda Sargent Chambers of RSC Show Productions, Carlotta Lennox, L.B. Rosser, and Toni Muñoz-Hunt just name a few, wanted to make sure her greatest pride and joy her son would be taken care of with his educational cost for the future.

With the city of Frisco growing at an amazing rate, the team discussed the idea with  Mr. Maso, the Mayor of Frisco who shortly after was on board with the concept of the event. Friscovania will also represent a safe Trick-Or-Treat zone for children and families in Frisco, TX as well as help raise funds and awareness of City House.  Immediately the name Friscovania was born from the combination of Frisco and Halloween.

Best Venues in Dallas

Where can I host my next event? I get asked this question very often. So here is a breakdown:

Lofty Spaces: Most affordable venue on this list with a rental fee of $250/h, comes with tables and chairs, basic lighting & sound, great outside patio, great backstage space with a kitchen, portable bars and the walls can be rearranged. If you are planning a fashion show you will have to bring in extra lighting. Another aspect to be aware of is that there is only one way to get to the restrooms, unless you create a changing area in the main venue, your guests will interfere with you production crossing paths with models and artists trying to reach the restrooms. You can bring in your own liquor and make money at the bar 🙂.

Women’s Museum: One of my favorite venues!!! Not your typical event space with high ceilings and lots and lots of space. It is available to be rented out according to floors but keep in mind that the first floor alone can hold up to 600 people. It has several smaller rooms, an auditorium, great backstage space, a prep kitchen and the beautiful fountain in front of the main entrance to welcome guests. Starts at $3600 for 5 hour event. The only downside is that you will literally only have access to the 4 walls of the Women’s Museum, therefore you will be required to secure all amenities and services from either outside vendors or Fair Park’s suggested and exclusive vendors. Very popular venue has to be booked 6-9 months in advance!!!

6500: Great venue that can be rented in thirds and accommodates 50-1000 guests. They provide almost everything from chairs&tables, to AV-Sound system, pipe&drape, lounge furniture, bars etc. Starts at $5000, great for non-profit, social and corporate events as well as wedding receptions.

7 for Parties: Has great art work and decor, also provides discounts for non-profit and charitable events. Rental fee $2800-$4800 depending on day (Saturday most expensive). If you decide on not using one of their vendors an additional charge will apply. Holds up to 500 guests. Great for tastings, social events and fashion shows.

Chandelier Room: Beautiful venue with great chandeliers (hint hint lol). Doesn’t have a real back stage area only a hallway between loading dock and inside of the venue. Bring in fans if you plan on using it as a backstage location. All services and amenities have to be secured through exclusive vendors. You won’t be able to make any money on drinks and food unless you factor it in the ticket price. Cash bar was available but we had to reach a specific minimum, if this minimum hadn’t been reached we would have had to pay the difference. Great for upscale events where an elegant ambiance is key. $2500-$4500 (for 4 hour event).

Empire Room: Nice venue with great backstage area, patio and prep kitchen. Comes with chairs and tables. All AV, lighting, pipe&drape and staging services have to be booked through the venue’s exclusive vendors. Here you can make money at the bar but have to pay a $1500 fee to bring in your own staff and bar. Valet parking is required! Rents for $2500-$7000 depending on day and month.

Gas Monkey Live: Ideal for musical performances or holistic concepts such as Art, Fashion and Art shows e.g. The Cosign Experience. We had over 40 vendors and 600 guests in attendance. 100% of the bar will go to the venue unless you have a sponsor and arrange a buy-back situation. Rental fee is $20,000 it comes with EVERYTHING besides chairs. I loved the live projection on the big screens. Not ideal for fashion shows but you can work around it.

Other venues you may want to check out are: The Omni Hotel DallasLife in Deep EllumThe Venue at 400, Times 10 Cellars, and Brown Lane Studios.
