I shop black brands year round but this Black History Month I’d like to highlight a few of my favorite brands that happened to be black. I think it’s important to emphasize that these brands are not my favorites among black brands but my favorites among ALL brands:

Actively Black: An athleisure brand founded by former NBA Player Lanny Smith experienced exponential growth these past 4 years including collaborations with Marvel’s Black Panther, FUBU Allen Iverson, and many more. The brand doesn’t shy away from telling authentic black stories. They “saw a void in representation and investment back into our communities from existing brands that have profited Billions by utilizing Black Talent, Black Culture, and Black consumerism.”
They live by the motto of by black people for black people. I simply love the authenticity as well as the quality and style aspects of the brand. I also wear the pieces casually and not just to work out. The best part is that a portion of the proceeds is being re-invested in the black community.

Hanifa: I’ve been following this brand way before it broke the internet with its virtual 3d Model Runway Show in 2020. This luxury brand really understands a woman’s body and how to accentuate it no matter your size or shape. Most recently I’ve been obsessed with the brand’s bridal collection. Hanifa is also giving back to the community with its Hanifa Dream Initiative by donating a portion of sales to various non-profits focused on uplifting women.

Telfar: I don’t go anywhere without my Teflie. The “Bushwick Birkin” is stylish and comes in different colors, sizes, materials, and an affordable price tag. Everyone from Beyonce to Bella Hadid has rocked this trendy item. The collaborations with Uggs, Melissa, and Eastpak have been monumental. He is a true pioneer from unisex clothing to affordable pricing of a luxury item. The Telly Jelly drop before Beyonce’s Renaissance Tour was a pure genius move. If you’re aiming to grab one of these highly sought-after items, which typically fly off the shelves within a couple of hours, I recommend setting your alarm for the next release.

Chelsea Paris: Not only are these shoes super cute. But the craftsmanship and attention to detail are impeccable. Another fact that attracted me to the brand is that they work with artisans in Europe and commit to sustainability by using textiles that are ecologically processed and only use organic and cruelty-free dyes and glues.
I hope you will check out these amazing brands. Even if you can’t find anything show them some love by following them on social, liking and sharing their posts.
If there are any black brands we should add or check out please comment below. I’m always on the hunt for new brands that uplift our communities.
Happy Black History Month!
XOXO,
